Estimated Commitment: 3–4 hours per month (with increased time during event weeks)

Overview

The Event Safety & Security Coordinator provides leadership and oversight for safety planning, emergency preparedness, and event environment management across all Faith and Freedom Tarrant County gatherings. This role is responsible for ensuring events remain orderly, welcoming, and peaceful by coordinating safety volunteers, working proactively with venue staff, and serving as the primary liaison to local law enforcement when appropriate. This is not a security officer position, nor does it carry law enforcement authority. Instead, it is a ministry role focused on preparation, coordination, communication, and stewardship so that attendees can worship, connect, and learn without distraction or concern.

Purpose of the Role

To protect the wellbeing of attendees, volunteers, and guests by coordinating all non-enforcement elements of event safety. The Safety Coordinator ensures that events reflect the order of God, the hospitality of Christ, and the highest standards of excellence and preparedness.

Core Responsibilities
  • Develop, maintain, and implement event safety plans for all major gatherings.

  • Conduct pre-event walkthroughs with venue staff to evaluate exits, safety routes, lighting, and emergency resources.

  • Lead and train the Event Safety Team volunteers, ensuring they understand their responsibilities, boundaries, and communication protocols.

  • Serve as the point of coordination with venue personnel, church partners, and local law enforcement, as needed and appropriate.

  • Oversee crowd flow, lobby safety, parking coordination, and general situational awareness during events.

  • Establish and communicate emergency response procedures (medical emergencies, severe weather, lost child situations, evacuation routes, etc.).

  • Ensure event radios, communication tools, and team instructions are ready and assigned.

  • Maintain accurate incident reporting when necessary.

  • Promote a peaceful, alert, and hospitable environment for all attendees.

  • Ensure all safety operations follow:

    • Faith and Freedom Tarrant County Code of Conduct

    • 501(c)(3) nonpartisan guidelines

    • Texas state regulations for volunteer safety teams

Volunteer Commitment & Conduct
  • 3–4 hours per month, with more time required during Freedom Nights, vision nights, and countywide events.

  • No compensation is provided; approved ministry-related expenses may be reimbursed.

  • The Coordinator agrees to:

    • Serve with humility, steady leadership, and discernment.

    • Maintain confidentiality when sensitive matters arise.

    • Avoid any activity resembling unlicensed security duties (detainment, searches, physical intervention).

    • Follow Texas law regarding volunteer safety roles.

    • Defer enforcement matters to venue security or law enforcement.

    • Uphold the biblical standards of love, integrity, and accountability.

Qualifications
  • A follower of Jesus Christ, faithfully involved in a local Bible-believing church.

  • Experience in law enforcement, emergency management, military, event operations, or safety leadership preferred.

Preferred (Not Required):
  • Texas Level II Non-Commissioned Security License, OR

  • Level III Commissioned Security License, OR

  • Active or former TCOLE certification (Texas Commission on Law Enforcement)

These certifications are preferred for experience only; volunteers will not perform licensed security duties or act under color of law.

  • Calm, decisive, and clear-headed during stressful or unexpected situations.

  • Strong communication skills and ability to lead volunteers with dignity and confidence.

  • Physically able to stand, walk, and assist throughout indoor and outdoor events.

  • Committed to stewarding the safety of God’s people with humility and excellence.

Important Legal Clarifications (Texas-Compliant)
  • This role does not function as a licensed security officer under Texas DPS Private Security Program regulations.

  • Volunteers may not detain, restrain, search, or act as law enforcement.

  • Sworn police officers serving in this role as volunteers must do so as volunteers, unless officially working an approved off-duty assignment through their agency.
